I have a 2000 4.3L Mercuriser 4.3L w/ an Alpha 1 gen II outdrive. It is on the top front right side when I face the engine/stern. You could also say it is on the port side of the boat. I was wondering if it was a resivoir for the power steering? Regards, Hostage

Newbie w/ Boat Fever - Looking into Cuddy Cabin's

Re: Newbie w/ Boat Fever - Looking into Cuddy Cabin's You are a smart guy, you came to us BEFORE you bought a boat. Sadly there are plenty of people who came here after the fact. Also, don't take offense to what some of these guys say. They have heard the same old stories and it can make people...

Anchor Well leaking into cuddy Cabin

I took my boat out of storage and decided to do a good cleaning of the cuddy cabin. I noticed that there was mold that was a little obscured by a little shelf. The mold appears to be coming from the anchor well drain, which has a tube running from the anchor well to the starboard bow where the...

    What could be leaking oil/gas?

Every time I put my boat in the water (y2k 1900 Maxum w/ 4.3L 190hp Merc w/ Alpha I gen 2) I see a little slick of oil or gas. Any suggestions on what this could come from? When I have my boat in the drive way I don't see any thing dripping on residue on the ground. Thanks, Hostage

    Good Pooch PFD?

Any suggestions on a good dog PFD? I just bought one from Country Max called Fido Float, though I am a little wary of the quality. It has handles, though it looks like it could be made of better quality. Regards, Hostage

    I almost lost my boat!

Normally I do everything electronically. This past fall I stored my boat in a large private barn. Since I normally do everything over the internet I have a paper trail. Though for this CList ad I called and arranged everything. So as the boating season approached, for the life of me I...

Why not use a boxer engine in a boat?

I thought it would be interesting to have a boxer engine in a boat with direct drive. Then have an internal cooling system that runs along the prop shaft to cool the engine? Remove winterizing, bellows, and that annoying large engine box. Kill a flock with one stone :) -Hostage

    Is this wall load bearing?

Re: Is this wall load bearing? This is what the attic looks like: Note: each floor is 816ft^2. This house is rectangular. I have no blue prints. My neighbor who is a painter said it isn't LB.

    Is this wall load bearing?

I am looking at moving a wall and I am trying to figure out if it is load bearing or not. I live in a 1979 Colonial house. That has 2 floors and a basement. The wall I want to move has the following details: Is on the second floor (attic is above it) Wall runs perpendicular to the ceiling...

    Weddings Costs

So a couple months ago I spent boat money on a ring and got engaged. I had no problem buying the ring, but I started to feel disgust when we started realizing how much these venues want you to spend. We then started to talk about maybe doing a destination wedding as it is cheaper, then her...

Deck Boats and Stability in rough waters (how do you define rough waters?)

Right now I own a Deep-V and I noticed the difference in how rough the waters are in NYS compared to TX. My granddads 1970's tri-hull was great in TX. I do see many people buy and use pontoons and deck boats up here in the bays and finger lakes. I have also seen some of them venture out into...

    New boats seem cheaply made.

I went to a boat show this past weekend in Rochester with my fiance and we checked out a lot of newer open bows. I wanted to show her some of the newer designs and how we can easily store her items safely. She really likes how we can store things in our cuddy. I was amazed at how many...

    Trolling

Any Merchant or Navy men/women on iboats?

I am starting a novel and it has to with ships being taken over by pirates in the horn of Africa. As this is my first book and I don't know much about setting other than what I have read and watched on TV, I would like to get info from people who have been there. I guess I am wanting to know...

Using a coworker's spouse as a contractor? Mixing work and non-work services?

My fiance and I are getting some quotes to have our bathroom remodel. I mentioned it to someone at work and they suggested that I use their spouse as they own a contractor business. I have used a different co-workers spouse as a realtor with great success. Though I guess it makes me feel wary if...

Remodeling Bathroom, where should I start?

I am looking at remodeling my bathroom. I heard of plumbing DIY can go wrong very easily. If I wanted to remodel my bathroom, where should I start? Should I just get a plumber to do most of the work? The bath places and big stores seem to want to charge a lot of money to redo a bathroom. I am...
