1968 Erude 40hp Lark - Voltage regulator.

I just took the top off my voltage regulator. It looks ugly, corroded and in need of help. Is there a bench test I can perform on the unit? My motor is dismantled so it must be a bench test. It is a deleted part in Australia last priced at AU$596.00. Thanks.

    1968 Erude 40hp Lark - flywheel removal!

We have so far twisted and bent six (3 each time) bolts and six big washers. We have now moved on to higher grade bolts to pull off this flywheel. Despite every effort over the last three days still no luck. Are there any tricks to getting this flywheel off? Thanks.

    1968 Erude 40hp - New wiring.

I need to replace some of the old wiring on my motor. The original wire was a silicone heat resistent type. It is extremely hard to get, especially in the colors I need(don't want to confuse myself). Can I substitute wire from a 240volt power lead? It happens to be the right colors. PS: Is there...

question for Dunaruna or any other Aussie.

I have sourced a service manual for my 1968 Erude 40hp Lark from the US. The freight cost is US$62.00, more than three times the cost of the book. Is there anyone in OZ that stocks these manuals. Thanks.

    1968 Erude 40hp Lark - fuel type.

I understand to use a 50fuel/50oil mix. Since my motor has been idle for 9 years I will start with 40-35fuel/60-65oil.
My question is about octane. We have four major variants in Australia. (why do you call it gas when it is actually liquid?) Normal unleaded fuel is 91/92 octane. Premium...

    1968 Erude 40hp Lark-What is this part?

At the front of my motor, but not attached to the motor there is a silver cylindrical part. It is about 3 1/2 inches across and about 1/2 inch deep. It is situated between the starter solenoid and the voltage regulator and is held in place above a hole in the housing by 3 bolts. It is attached...

    1968 Erude 40hp Lark - Cowl?

I keep seeing pictures of motors with a cover over the top of the flywheel. I can see 3 unused bolt holes on my 40hp Lark model number 40872. Should it have a cover or are they just pull start assemblies for motors without a starter? Thanks.

    1968 40hp Erude - compression test.

My motor was purchased having sat idle for at least 9 years so I am not ready yet to attempt firing. I would like to know if I can do a compression check without forward controls. Can it be done with the bottom unit removed? There seems no point in continuing down the current path if I am going...

    1968 40HP Erude - Electric Shift Test.

My latest entry for "Stupid Question Of The Week" award! I would like to test my eletric shift while I have the lower unit off. Is the following procedure a legitimate test? 1.Ground a lead from negative battery terminal to the lower unit.
2.Run positive lead to green lower unit cable. 3...

    Erude 1968 40hp Electric - Carby

Model number 40872. I have two questions. 1. How do I know if the carby has a float or not without dissmantling it. The carby has the number 379486 on it. I am told there is no re-build kit available in Australia. 2. I measured from the top of the transom mount bracket to the cavitation plate...

    Battery position. 1968 Erude

Due to rear weight concerns I will be forced to place either the fuel tank or battery forward of my dash, about 9 feet away from the motor. Which should I choose? Or can I have them both well forward. Thanks.

    1968 Erude 40hp Lark - corrosion.

I have the rear exhaust cover off my motor (6 bolts off easy and 6 snapped in the hole). There is a fair bit of corrosion (not unexpected). After I remove all corrosion with a wire brush drill attachment I would like to coat the inside of the cover to prevent future corrosion. Any ideas. Thanks.

1968 Erude 40 hp Lark. Phillips screw?

    1. When changing gear oil my manual keeps warning me not to remove the phillips screw or else. Am I right in suggesting this model does not have a phillips screw? 2. Is the negative lead from the battery attached to the motor via a bolt on the starter motor bracket? Apologies in advance if...

1968 Rude 40hp Lark forward control.

I have no forward control unit. Since the motor is Selectric shift I am assuming I need an original unit, not something new off the shelf. If this assumption is correct what is the availablility of this unit in the US. Don't like my chances of finding one Down Under. My manual should arrive...

    Winch tilt? Is this crazy?

I have a 1968 40HP Lark I think it weighs about 154lbs. I have a custom built stand and I have difficulty tilting the motor. Can't imagine I could do it easily from inside the boat and I had this crazy idea. A transom plate with electric tilt would cost me about $600+ US. I can buy a 2000lb...

1968 40 hp Lark. Idle for 9 yrs.

My motor had been idle for 9 years when I bought it. Have noted from this sight that I should squirt 1ts of TC-W3 into each cylinder then turn by hand 5 or 6 revolutions. Is 1ts a table spoon or a teaspoon? Big difference. Thanks.
