    1987 Mercury 9.9 B151689 Flywheel magnets

In the first picture would I just slide itto the left and affix it in previously marked position ? Or in picture two would I lift it , place it as shown across from where it is in its previously marked placement ?

    1987 Mercury 9.9 B151689 Flywheel magnets

To be quite frank I have no idea what is north and what is south on the magnets. I hate to be impulsive (like I tend to be) and just place them with epoxy and then suffer the extreme anguish of breaking it to remove and reverse it. I'll remove the old adhesive , that will keep me occupied...

1998 Mercury 75 HP 2-Stroke RPM Issue - Possible Stator Problem?

I hope you get her done. The processs of elimination can be frustrating but for some of us it beats bringing it to the shop and spending a whole lot of $$. Plus some of us somehow enjoy the frustration but when its fixed it is the joy of the win. Ignition issues can be difficult just the nature...

1998 Mercury 75 HP 2-Stroke RPM Issue - Possible Stator Problem?

Not real technical here but have you ran it at night , cowl removed. Look for and listen for a short . Perhaps when on the water if its calm enough and safety measures observed hook up a timing light to each cyinder in turn try to find a trouble spot on acceleration under load. When is your...

I have included some pictures I hope which will help to clarify my lack of proper linguistics. Aparently the po glued this magnet without success. I am hoping to correct the problem. I know to clean the both surfaces removing all existing adhesives and coating. I have been ill for quite a while...

Gas leaking out of one carb?

You now have some experience working on your carbs. You only need to take the advice given to you by airshot. Thats it. But yes , of course debris in the jets will cause issues. You may need to address fuel before the engine issues . I hope not. Good luck.

    L/U Casing # 1647 6670 vs 1647 6670C

No need to post pictures but thanks for offering to help me identify my lower unit. I found my lower to be called Torpedo. I am not certain it is the original but I now have the diagrams needed to continue. I am working on a 175HP 2 stroke carbureted 2:1 Ratio - 14 Teeth Pinion Gear (1) serial...

    L/U Casing # 1647 6670 vs 1647 6670C

Got me on what is a desmodronic shift ? I am pretty sure that the lower unit has been switched. From what I can tell. I am working with a lower from a 1978 to 1986 serial 4868988 - A904645 without a driveshaft nut. So yes, I am confused again. Why does the diagram show a driveshaft nut? I am...

    L/U Casing # 1647 6670 vs 1647 6670C

You are correct and I agree although for me it is not the way to go. I appreciate your suggestion. For better or worse I plan to forge ahead in my folly. Fools rush in.................. . Mercury parts listing are a bit confusing as there are different lowers for the same engine model and years...

    L/U Casing # 1647 6670 vs 1647 6670C

i am trying still to identify this lower unit casing so that I may purchase parts for it. I have found 1647 6670C as belonging to a 150 HP Merc but I have not seen / found 1647 6670 . Would these two sets of numbers be the same lower unit casing. I purchased a 1979 200HP 2 stroke Merc with this...

    Actuator shock absorber

How do I lknow if the shock absorber on the surge brake actuator is good..Mine seems excessively stiff but seems to work. This is on a Demaax actuator. I have replaced one on a Titan 60 in the past and dont recall it being so hard to move in or out.

1979 Merc 200 Whats up with these

I used a reliable compression tester . All 6 cylinders all had readings of between 125 and 129. The 129 reading was on the opposing cylinder to the one from which the bolts pictured came from. All of my spark plugs are extremely clean as if washed . I attribute that to the sea foam in the fuel...

1979 Merc 200 Whats up with these

I will recheck it tomorrow, I forget if it was 125 or 150. I do remember that all cylinders were even. It runs well in a 55 gallon drum. I have never ran it in a lake or other . Thank you for your reply.

1979 Merc 200 Whats up with these

In my attempt to have my temperature alarm working I found the senders wire was missing. When I removed the two head bolts securing the temp sender I found the bolts pictured full of carbon or black soot. So my questions are many but start with how did theses bolts get a carbon build up on...
