    2003 mercury 115 w/an exhaust backfire

    My 115 starts good , but after a few minutes it will start popping( like a backfire ) through the exhaust. When it does this, the rpm's drop and the motor almost stalls. It doesn't do it quite as bad when you increase the rpm's and it pretty much goes away altogether once you get above 3000 rpm...

    Will unplugging one of connectors to the oil level sending unit also disable high temp alarm? Thanks in advance.

    03 saltwater 115 alarm

    Well, here goes. First, hooked up boat to garden hose, started her up and ran rough at first. After 30-45 secs the idle smoothed out for about a minute, then it started to pop out the exhaust about every 20 secs. Did that for a couple of minutes, then cleared up. Took it to the lake, idled out...
