I'm considering a 2021 scout with a 150 merc 925 hours and everything I find is that is about the average half-life (2000h) of the motor vs. a yamaha which tend to average much higher. Price is a little higher than I want to spend and I'm concerned the hours are high. Any help is appreciated.

The "average life expectancy" isn't a reliable measure of longevity.

Marine motors that die a natural death are very few and far between. They almost always die of abuse and neglect.

The problem I have with an "average life expectancy" is that maintenance is not taken into consideration. A well maintained motor that is still in use at 3,000 hours and abused motor that died at 1,000 hours come out to a 2,000 hour average.

the factory manual on the 150hp outboard will have the compression specs. with a 10:1 compression, without knowing what the cam numbers are, the compression can be between 140 and 160psi
