Seattle or western Washington and even a bunch of eastern Washington is having record weather everything. Torrential rain, wind, massive snowmelt all combined to make rivers crest higher than 100 year record river peak records. Crazy stuff and I'm sure plenty of life loss. Still waiting for reports.

Nothing to say other than I feel for them all. Heading up that way tomorrow for a month to see if I can help any folk up there. News reports show nothing but giant mess's.

Monday and Tuesday is bringing a second round of the newerish term of "atmospheric river"

Most people around here I think are just in a daze. Washingtonians are just crossing there big toes praying really.

Mountains are bald and usually you can ski by thanksgiving. Outside temp is over 60 and freezing level is 8000 ft.

Freaky.

I'm warm and dry so I'll be helping people and working on old two strokes to keep the stress at bay.

Kudos to everyone here, I think all you guys do a great job of informing strangers here and help the world one small bit at a time. The goodness of giving is worth a lb of gold everyday of the week and twice on Sunday.

Peace and health to all.

Nope.
I'm about 130 miles south of you.
It was -14 here when you posted yesterday.

And its -13 here this morning.

I bet the Packer players are happy to be playing in Denver today.
Green Bay will be lucky to be 8* at game time.

some reflection from Kahlil Gibran..

“You give but little when you give of your possessions.
It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.”

True generosity is effortless and joyful, not sacrificial or resentful.

You are not diminished by giving—you are fulfilled.

“It is best to give when one is not solicited—when giving arises from understanding rather than request.”

Everything you post is always full of elegance and grace.

Thank you.

Matt I canot claim the fame of those words but I do reflect on them on occasion.
Did you know Kahlil wrote other famous words...in the 1920s

"Ask not what your country can do for you Ask yourself what you can do for your country . "

Words generally attributed to JFK but his speech writer borrowed a few words...

No, I've never heard of his name or that speech. I also didn't know that JFK borrowed those lines.

Either way, those words have lots of meaning with whomever speaks it.

Words and meanings to live by.

Heading north from the big city (Seattle) in about 2 hours or so...I may post a video or two.

Very surreal around here.

A little follow-up, tried to make it to help all my fellow Americans or washingtonians as they say, but they wouldn't allow me to get there. Now I agree with this because a lot of the people were trying to help but ended up needing help. Sometimes the human spirit kind of gets in the way.

I did make it up to my place and I've been hanging around and doing what I can. The other night I woke up to this and then it turned out I needed a lot of help.

If it wasn't for my granny, God rest her soul, I wouldn't have any lights. But the old wood stove and the old school oil lamps did the job.

The road is finally open after I faced 70 mile an hour winds coming straight at my summer home. It's definitely been a lesson and I can't wait to get home for a couple of days.

Where did all the logs come from. Did a log raft break up or is this something that just happens?
We are due for some 50 to 60 mph winds today but it’s pretty normal for this time of the year.

Wind gusts were over 100 which I found out later...but remember we were flooded by record floods for like 3 days. Broke all the records around here.

Some of it is normal and I have pictures in years past (log wise) that are much worse.

The rivers were raging and destroyed highways that are major thoroughfares that can't be repaired for months if not longer. Freezing temperatures were at the 8000 ft range so what snow we had in the mountains quickly melted causing the rivers to go even more wild.... Levy failure combined with massive flooding, flooding so bad that's never been recorded this bad at least in this area. My cabin kind of lines up with the straits of Jaun De Fuca which the wind shoots down and pummels what's in its path.

While most of Western Washington got pummeled, that night our area got hit the hardest. Land areas west of me and to the east of me got clobbered. An area at least 200 miles.

It's the northwest so yes we still have trees and the rivers pumped them into the area but logs are common year round and that's why there is no "boat racing" in Puget Sound.

Good thing is, I never need firewood and my cobbled together bulkhead held ...at least kind of.

Now to clean the mess.

One for the history books for sure.

Log picture is of years past.

When and if I retire...I plan to have a saw mill!
