Hi All,

I've read many articles on this forum and just joined!

I have a new-to-me 2004 Chaparral with a Merc 6.2L engine (S/N 0M682690) and Bravo III drive (S/N 0M196237). I purchased the Merc Service Manuals for the engine (#31) and drive (#28), but wondering where I can buy the Service Bulletins. I plan to do my own maintenance and rebuilds (when/if necessary) and would like to have the latest technical information and corrections to the manuals for the unit and drive. I searched the forum before posting this question, and found many posts related to the Service Bulletins, but didn't see a response related to obtaining access or purchasing the bulletins.

Any help is appreciated and Happy Holidays!

Thanks,
Dennis

Welcome
Many of the service can be found online by searching and downloading. They can also be purchased thru a Merc dealer. The issue is knowing which ones relate to your motor/drive. A merc dealer can look them up, or maybe @Fun Times might be able to or know someone who can

Hi Alldodge,

Thanks for the welcome!

I did look online, but only found a couple. As you pointed out, I really need to understand which service bulletins apply to my 6.2L and Bravo 3 and that appears to be the biggest challenge. Once I know which bulletins are useful, then I can try and get them.

Thanks for the help!

On your note I reached out to a now long term iboats member that still happens to work at a Merc dealer to help check on this topic for added support and she (Julianna 🙂) came back with mentioning the following,
(These in the following image are listed under his serial number range he would have to find, and go through each one to determine if it affects his serial range or not. The chafe wire Bulletin No. 2006-02 is a recall and any Mercruiser authorized dealer can get it taken care of for him even still to this day.)

So without being able to find them all without some sort of dealer employee support from an internal website they use or paper booklet created by the dealer as they come in by mail, the options are limited though sometimes one could go searching for them individually online and find a few scattered throughout plus sometimes when looking up to order certain parts, you may run across a note that says see service bulletin or parts bulletin number such and such for the latest info or how to install something and some sites may offer a direct link to the bulletin and others don’t expect for one website that tends to offer a good majority of them ‘all located in one area under a particular Merc serial number search of within their parts catalog for number searched.

This mentioned, ‘while in rare cases you might find a service bulletin that has service manual corrections it didn’t seem to be the norm and to a degree there were a few different avenues they’d used to help make the corrections ‘such as send out other types of documentations suggesting to place this info in/on a certain page number in need, a separate internal file booklet at each dealership or a newer manual or supplement manual and/or taught in training school hand written in a tech training type booklet so it’s not very easy to keep track of specially if you’re not in the field every day doing it.

The following 2 links are where you’ll be able to find the majority for both serial numbers near the bottom of each page,

Good deal FT thanks, never tried looking on the Merc site for them since most other sites don't list them

Wow Fun Times, You have some awesome friends! I appreciate you taking the time to ask for a newbie like me. This is great info. I'll take an in-depth look at these and try to determine which ones are worth pursuing.

Thanks again!
Dennis
