Why do V8 boat engine have so many cooling system parts ? Compared to a basic V 8 car engine ?

A marine engine works a lot harder than a a similar engine installed in a car.----Cooling system is not pressurized in most cases.----Exhaust manifolds are water cooled.----Just not the same as an automotive set-up !!

Same reason that V6 boat engines have so many cooling system parts.

Well there are a few...
1) improvements, Merc came up with the warm manifolds system which reduces condensation in the exhaust system but adds hoses
2) convenience, single point drain adds a lot of extra hoses and fittings, but to me is not an improvement, because they can clog due to rust flakes
a true improvement would be standard closed cooling, that would eliminate the draw back of the single point drain and extend engine life.

There is not much more when you boil it down

Let's first cut out similar systems.

Power steering coolers are on both
Upper and lower engine cooling hoses are in both
Circulation pumps are used on both
Heat exchangers are the equivalent of a radiator
Overflow tanks are on both
Thermostats are on both

Now let's look on the added systems

Water cooled exhaust is so you don't set the boat on fire with 1100 degree temps
Raw water pump because it's an open system and you need to pressurize the water up to the block
2-4 hoses supplying water to the cooled exhaust manifolds because these systems are separate

Now if you're Mercruiser you add 45# if hypercomplexification in their drain systems to meet a very dumb thought of consumer report ratings

Looking at a late model Merc with that system gives me anxiety. In fact I told my brother who owned one of the block drains clog the way that boat was designed it’s nearly impossible to get down to the bottom of the block! He traded it on a similar boat with a 4 stroke outboard!

If you remove all the single point drain carp, the system is basic
