    3 cyl. outboard issue

    I have a mercury 1979 70hp 3cylinder outboard that will start and idle with or without the # 2 plug wire attached. We found what appears to be either or both a bad coil and wire on the # 2. Would that cause it to run on muffs ok but bog completly out in the water? Will they idle on 2 cylinders...

    switch box testing?

    1979 mercury model 70 70 hp outboard motor. Is there a way to test the switch box without running the engine? Also the flywheel has timing marks on it starting from TDC (464 ) and going to the right ( counter clockwise ) When I check the timing the marks move to the right away from my pointer...

    Troubled in Cincy

    I have a merc model 70 70 hp 1979 motor. We have rebuilt the fuel pump, carbs, has new trigger and new plugs. The timing has not been checked. It will start with a little help from starter fluild but will not stay running if you lower the throttle all the way down. It just sputters to a halt...
