Ok here i go again, i am replacing the seals in my lower unit on a 89 35hp force the question is on the new seals there is a solid side and then on the other side there is a open side that you can see something resembling a spring which way do these seals go? Any help is greatly appreciated

I just recently bought a boat with a 1989Force 35hp engine, they were running Pennzoil synthetic in it and i was wandering if this is a good oil, i have never had any type of luck with there automotive oils and i was wandering if there 2 stoke oil is any better or if i should change? any advice...
I was just wandering when i start my engine it does not automatically start pumping, after approximately a minute it will start spraying out the exhaust ports down on the leg is this normal? and also when running at high rpms should there be a steady stream? any help is greatly appreciated.
