Replacing batwing manifold questions (and other questions)

Ok, thanks. I didn't see that the Volvo valves could be installed in them. Sorry for my ignorance. :)

Replacing batwing manifold questions (and other questions)

Thanks for the information. But the Volvo risers with the check valve are about $160 apiece. Plus the $900 for the manifold, 90 degree piece to make connection to the OMC exhaust. I was hoping that someone knew for sure if the check valve was not needed as a parts guy on the phone told me. I...

Replacing batwing manifold questions (and other questions)

Alright, I had an aftermarket OSCO CSCR643 manifold and the OMC risers installed when I replaced the engine. (by the way, it is a 2006, not a 2008). These manifolds were discontinued long ago, but I found a note on an old catalog that says these are not to be used with Vortec engines, which...

Replacing batwing manifold questions (and other questions)

Thanks for the education, guys. I'll start tearing it apart and see what really happened and go from there. I'll post pix when I get the heads off.

Replacing batwing manifold questions (and other questions)

After reading your post with the pix, I see that the parts are Volvo. Are they the same as the OMC? When looking at a long block, do I have to use one that is listed as OMC or will the Volvo be identical? Pardon my ignorance.

Replacing batwing manifold questions (and other questions)

You know, I just assumed that the block was cracked because of the the "freeze" plugs were pushed out. The oil was emulsified so water intrusion was there before I drained the block for the winter. Staying with the 4bbl would be the easiest and cheapest option, especially if the manifold isn't...

Replacing batwing manifold questions (and other questions)

Some complications: '91 omc cobra drive, but a 2008 4.3 Vortec engine. Cracked block, probably caused from a cracked batwing exhaust manifold. I guess I will get a remanufactured Vortec long block and transfer the water pump, starter, flywheel, alternator, etc. from the old engine...

    oil pressure alarm?

I have a '90 4.3 HO that is missing the oil pressure and water temp alarm. Not the sensors, but the alarm itself. I'm having problems trying to locate a replacement. Anyone have a link to find the part? thanks

OMC 4.3 HO re-power is underproped

I have a 1991 Reinell 200 Bermuda hardtop. I replaced the old 4.3 HO 4-barrel with a new crate Vortec 4.3, Vortec intake and a new Holly 4-barrel. It runs fantastic, but I must be making much more horsepower. The outdrive is the 1991 Cobra 800 15 spline variety 1.68:1 ratio (model # 986032...

    '91 4.3 to vortec 4.3 Ignition question

I have a dead 1991 OMC 4.3 (non-balance shaft)engine. I want to replace it with a Vortec 4.3 long block. I know I will need an electric fuel pump and a 8 bolt intake manifold, but will my OMC HO electronic ignition system need to be replaced? There isn't anything wrong with it (that I...

    OMC exhaust flappers...Part #?

I need to replace the exhaust flappers in my 1990 OMC 4.3 HO. They melted in an overheat. First, what are they really called? Exhaust seals? Anti-backwash flaps? Second, what is the part number, if anyone has the parts book around? Third, the teardown showed a cracked head on one bank, but...

    Removing intake manifold on 4.3

Well, I have started tearing down the '90 OMC 4.3 that overheated on the Columbia, but I can't for the life of me get the intake manifold off. There are big gobs of black sealent in the valley between the heads holding it down. Any tricks I could try? The good news is the exhaust manifolds...

I know it's bad news, but how bad?

First off, sorry for the long post. I took my '91 Reinell with 4.3 OMC HO engine out for the first time yesterday on the Columbia River. I de-winterized it before hand and ran it on the muffs for about 15 min. to check for problems of which there seemed to be none. I launched and ran for...
