    Help to identify outboard motor

I don't know what this is. It's been given a paint job and there doesn't appear to be any ID marks on it.

    '88 Johnson 8hp

This motor starts fine, idles good, and will run at full speed, if you are quick with the throttle. Turning throttle slowly from idle to mid range, it's ok, but, at mid range it will flood and die. I replaced the power pack and both coils along with new plugs with the same result. I removed the...

'85 Honda 7.5 oil in pee stream

A buddy of mine says he has oil mixed with the water coming out of the pee stream yet the motor seems to run fine. Is this possible? Could it be a simple fix, like a bad gasket? I'm not sure how much oil he's talking about but he can see a sheen behind his boat. Looking for suggestions and guidance.

    Bear Cat 55

Hello to All, I recently got a Bear Cat 55 to rebuild for a Buddy of mine. It came to me in 4 boxes full of parts (plus a Service Manual!) Very nice old motor. Well machined and made in the USA. Parts are a bit on the pricey side and I was wondering if anyone knew of any parts suppliers that may...

Re: 70 Hp. Evinrude F-R, this is my baffle plate and it looks (to me) like it was leaking like you said. What do you think?

    70 Hp. Evinrude

Re: 70 Hp. Evinrude The piston skirt has a chip missing and the exhaust ports have some "galling"(?). There is a single score mark inside the cylinder and some slight scuffing on the piston skirt. The crankshaft journal for that cylinder has a "texture" and also looks a bit blue like it was...

    70 Hp. Evinrude

Re: 70 Hp. Evinrude Thanks for the tip on Epoxy and you guys are right, the piece that pierced the casting is a piece of the bearing cage for the middle cylinder. I have no idea what caused that but, there are no broken rings at all. I'm going to send it to the machinist and then make my...

    70 Hp. Evinrude

This is a picture of a piece of broken ring that has pierced the crankcase on a '83 Evinrude 70 hp. Is this something that can be welded?

    "Skirt" cylinders

What does it mean when they say "skirt the cylinder" My assumption is, the cylinder is wider at the bottom than the top?

1997 9.9 Merc 2 stroke, no spark either cyllinder

There is no spark at either cylinder. I have disconnected the black/yellow kill wires at the switch box and still no spark. I have searched this Forum and learned that the switch box is the likely cause but I'd like to be sure of that before I continue. Is there a way to test the switch box?

    Lower Unit Holding Tool

Re: Lower Unit Holding Tool This is a Black & Decker workmate that I have altered with wider jaws. It works good for my needs. Pay no attention to the color of the lower unit.

    '83 Johnson 25hp ignition issue

I have an '83 Johnson J25ECTD that's not firing on top cylinder. I can start the motor quite easily but it's "sneezing" at low rpm. The top plug is very wet with unburned fuel and the bottom plug is sooty but dry (plugs are new). Good spark with air gap tester, good compression (135 on both)...

    '88 Suzuki 30hp broken ring

My buddies '88 Suzuki 30hp has broken rings and a damaged piston in the top cylinder. The impeller went and overheated the motor which caused the issue (I think). Bottom cylinder is good, 120psi compresssion. The overheat also melted the mount on the power pack. My question; is it worth the repair?
