Throttle cable and various adjustments Merc 35hp 2-stroke ?1987?

Thank you for helping. Here is a picture of the serial number plate. It's serial number is A951254. However, on Mercury's site that number does not come up. I'm told that their site is tricky for identifying older engines.

Throttle cable and various adjustments Merc 35hp 2-stroke ?1987?

Hello, I have a 1987(ish) Mercury 35hp 2-stroke that runs pretty well, but I want to make sure that I've got it setup the right way. Once it runs for a while it can be hard to restart, so I want to just start with the basics and go from there. Here's my question, in the picture you'll see 4...

throttle cable and idle adjustment 1986 Mercury 35 hp 2-stroke

I now have a running 1986 Mercury 35hp 2-stroke, YAY!!! However, have no idea how to adjust the throttle cable and idle. When I first fired it up, it ran super fast, so I adjusted the throttle cable to lower the RPMs by lengthening the distance between the barrel and the point where it attaches...

Starter Removal Mercury 35HP 2 Stroke

Success!!! The diagram was slightly different than reality. Bolt #38 actually goes in from the top down. If you pry the starter outward it allows enough clearance to get a socket in there with an extension to take the bolt out. I magnetized my socket so the bolt wouldn't drop into the hard to...

Starter Removal Mercury 35HP 2 Stroke

Has anyone removed the starter from a Mercury 35HP 2 Stroke that had the bracket that's underneath the starter? It seems impossible to get to. The bracket is #36 and is held on by bolt #37. Who in the heck designs this stuff????

1984 35hp Lower Unit Removal Trouble

I believe it's an official manual. It covers 2hp to 40hp, so the engine you see falls in that range. It's about 500 pages. I think it's pretty accurate.

1984 35hp Lower Unit Removal Trouble

Thank you, I will attempt to remove the pin in the upper end of the shift shaft below the carb. It's a tight area, and I'm not sure how I'm gonna do it without taking more parts off. I stopped down at a local shop and they confirmed what you mentioned as well. I'm guessing that the impeller...

1984 35hp Lower Unit Removal Trouble

Jimmbo, thanks for the reply, but I've removed the nuts and bolts you mention including the "hidden" one which really is not very much hidden. If I didn't remove all the bolts I would not have been able to separate the LU about 1/4" all the way around. I've used the side bolts as leverage by...

35hp Mercury, lower unit will not come off.

I'm having the same problem with mine. It's a 1984 Mercury 35hp. Do you have pictures of what you did? I know it's 17 years ago, so this is a long shot, but the ones you posted are no longer viewable. Thanks!!! MODERATOR EDIT: Please review the forum rules about posting to old threads. It...

1984 35hp Lower Unit Removal Trouble

Hello everyone, I have a 1984 Mercury 35hp that I'm trying to do the impeller on. I can't figure out how to get the lower unit off. I think that it's an issue with the shift shaft. The manual says, "Remove the shift lever coupler located in the bottom cowling behind the carburetor." The...
