Got the 3 bolts out, but my lower unit will only separate 1/4" then sticks.
Don't want to break anything forcing it to pull loose.
Did above in Neutral setting.
What's the trick for getting it to drop free for removal?

About to go through my 1983 Johnson 7.5 J8RCTA. Because the engine under the cover is looking pretty dirty, as well as the lower cowling, Id like to clean and wash it down before I start on the carb rebuild.

Just pulled my J8RCTA out of storage after 8 years. Put it away by simply running it out of gas.
Put some oil in cylinders. Changed the plugs. New gas. Choked. Started on 5th pull.
My problem is...it won't exceed more than 200-300rpm above idle. :face palm: In gear or out of gear...
