I'm mocking-up the steering for the 135 Johnson I'm putting on my latest boat. The boat was Mercury 150 powered before I got it and I have a question.
The old steering set-up for the Merc was through the motor style. When I put the cable through the tube, the rod sticks out really far...
'74 Johnson 135. What should I do before the freeze comes? Make sure there's no water and fog carbs? Or am I looking at an anti-freeze type of procedure like an I/O?

My FIL has a '78 Supersport. It's a 18' 4cly I/O. I really like the boat and I think I'm going to start looking for one of my own for my next boat. Unless I finally get up the nerve to whack him over the head, it's going to be a while before I can get my hands on his.
