Could you point me at a reputable one or a good source for the OEM one? Digital is fine by me. When I search "factory service manual" I get all sorts of results.
That is what I ended up doing in the end.
After I reinstalled the carbs and did a link & sync, I did a seafoam decarbonization on the engine, followed by a new set of plugs. Seems to be happier now. Looking forward to getting back out on the water to do some more testing...
I'm having trouble setting the float height on my carburetors. I'm doing this because my idle is rough but seems to be tilt/trim sensitive. At some trims it idles well, not so much at others.
The Clymer manual says the height should be 9/16" from the top to the sealing surface to the top of the...
Thanks. This was my thought, too. I've left the small motor's 12V output disconnected until I sort this all out. Of course, I want to be able to charge my batteries while the large engine is off, so I'll need to sort out what extra hardware I need to combine the two charging sources.
I realize...
I have a Mercury 2-stroke 50HP outboard and a honda 4-stroke 8HP outboard on my boat. Do I need ti take any precautions before connecting the Honda's 12V output to my batteries so that it can charge them too?
That is, do I need to do anything special when connecting two different alternator...
Thank you for the additional insight. This motor is on a 1974 Bayliner Quartermaster 17 (17'8" V-hull) that I picked up used and have been fixing up. I finally got it in the water yesterday (ocean off Victoria, BC) for the first time. I was really worried that it would be underpowered but it...
I have a Mercury 50HP ELHPTO (1999) and a classic quicksilver control box. The 5-pin tachometer output from the controller is corroded and missing a pin. Can anyone tell me what the proper replacement connector is?
Hello, all. I have a 1999 50 HP ELHPTO 2-stroke, 3-cylinder outboard (s/n 0G905364). I recently pulled the carburetors, disassembled, cleaned (I love my ultrasonic cleaner!), and reinstalled. I recorded where each of the carbs' idle adjust screws were before disassembly (all around the...
It ran just fine, but I could see the throttle was only being moved about 25% with the control fully forward. I agree it isn't pretty. I want to slowly clean it up, but for that I would like to have the proper service manual.
I agree that they are casting numbers, but there actually are several numbers there. What I am looking at (sorry for the blurry photo) are the two smaller 2-digit numbers on the casting, roughly lined up with the "vw-1" on the hose above them. "12", then a space, then "88". If you look to the...
Hello, all - first post!
I recently picked up a used boat that has a pair of engines. A 90HP Johnson V4 VRO and a Honda BF15A.
The Johnson needs a little TLC (mainly throttle cable adjustment, I believe, but I would like to identify the engine. The welch plug inside appears to be missing, and...
