    time for my winter project

No Title Here are three different methods I used to mount relays. Sorry about the size and quality of the photos but it was dark and crowded in the garage. These are actually custom made wiring from salvaged auto parts from a U-PULL-IT junkyard

    Firing order Force 150

I am looking at my extra 150 crankshaft but it is not bright in the garage. Can anyone confirm that the firing order is: 1, 5, 2, 3, 4?

    Old cowling insulation removed.

Yeah, I use the yoga mat. It works adequately. It is thin enough to not cause interference yet provides some sound absorption. I use contact cement and cut the pieces to fit. Remember: no insulation is going to damp a lot of sound; there are two big air intake holes through which sound...

Brief tutorial on water pump impellers.

These are all impellers out of a dual exhaust lower unit. First is a new one. Second is an old one that pumped very little water. third is one that pumped ok at speed but did not pump at idle. Lastly is the broken gasket that also caused no water at idle. Guess which one is the only useful one.

    Disuse problems.

I just took out my 21 foot cuddy with the Force 150 for a shake-down cruise. This was after over a year and a half not using it. Right from the start I knew it was going to be a bad day because I misplaced the cord to the electric winch. So, I added back a handle and decided to winch the boat...

    2011 Chevy Silverado

My owners manual gives axle ratios, towing capacities etc. However nowhere in the manual is horsepower ever mentioned. Does anyone know the horsepower rating of the 5.3 flex fuel active fuel management engine? Just curious since my '99 4.3 was rated at 180

    1973 chrysler outboard 90 hp

Re: 1973 chrysler outboard 90 hp The 90 is a nice 3 cylinder engine with Motorola Magna-Power ignition. This particular ignition is relatively trouble-free but the CD box does occasionally go bad. If it is running, compression ratio is good and it has good spark, it probably will serve you well...

What Type Inline Fuel Filter Do You Use?

Re: What Type Inline Fuel Filter Do You Use? I have used them but mostly I use a fuel screen--the Purolator F50153-- and have had good luck with them. They are a 90 degree strainer and I either mount them between carbs on a 4 cylinder engine or below the carbs on a 3 cylinder. Don't be...

    Chrysler 18 spline hub

Re: Chrysler 18 spline hub Here are two examples of 10 inch pinned props and a home-made hub pressing tool. As far as I know, hubs for those props are obsolete and NLA. You can TRY HMS hubs. The props themselves are becoming more difficult to find. Your best bet would be to search...

    :Milky" lower unit oil

For those who are wondering if their lower unit oil is contaminated with water, I submit these photos. This occurred with only about five minutes run time. I was water testing an engine I had sold and mounted on a boat. It did not perform satisfactory so I brought it back to the garage. There I...

Prop/all hardware on 1988 Force 125 lost in 160 feet of water! Advice on replacing.

Re: Prop/all hardware on 1988 Force 125 lost in 160 feet of water! Advice on replacin Vibration can loosen the nut. You do not need to put the engine in reverse--when you slow down, water pressure against the prop will slide it off the shaft. A regular stainless or bronze nylock nut will...

Prop/all hardware on 1988 Force 125 lost in 160 feet of water! Advice on replacing.

Re: Prop/all hardware on 1988 Force 125 lost in 160 feet of water! Advice on replacin Buy whatever prop fits and you like. It does not matter whether or not the prop is closed hub or Flared hub--thru-hub exhaust. Performance will be the same. You can use any prop listed for a 1979-1984...

    Changing motors

Re: Changing motors I swap engines more often than I change my underwear. ASSUMING that both engines are the same control system--that is, either both are Mercury or both are US Marine--you can swap engines in about 1 1/2 hours IF you have a lift. Add a couple more hours if you need to...
