Seems every day I'm discovering new gremlins. On an attempt to troubleshoot a no fire in cylinder 1, after some failed attempts the motor doesn't want to crank over anymore. When turning the key it putters once and I noticed the positive battery terminal is starting to smoke. Where should I start?

Recently just had the issue happen two weeks ago while out on the water. Summer maintenance included water pump impeller/gasket replacement, new plugs, and new battery. Also siphoned out all the old gas, re-filled with fresh gas and added some fuel treatment to the mix. Boat idles and runs fine...
