Jeez! What happened to global warming

Going on 87 and still cutting and splitting my own wood. Have a log home of about 3400 sq ft but don't heat two bedrooms and a bath on the third floor. We have a geothermal heat pump system but mostly depend on a wood stove on one floor and a circulating fireplace on the other. We don't work...

Difference between U.S. & Cdn. capacity plates

The dispatchers figure it out along with needed fuel, etc, using a standard weight per person. I did read once that there are times they have to calculate more like for a charter of a pro football team. Dispatchers do all the planning for a flight, All an airline pilot has to do is fly the...

Difference between U.S. & Cdn. capacity plates

The question came up on another site about why the difference between 2 or 3 persons. Being forty or so years since I was involved on the administrative end of such things I had no idea. I tried to bluff my way through it and told them metric people are heavier but they saw through it.

A Good Night to be on Lake Erie

I did see the captain of the HEERENGRACHT left a post that it was his decision and not the company's to remain out while waiting to get into the Welland and with the size and freeboard of his bulk freighter they were not in danger. That was the boat out west of Buffalo in my original post.

A Good Night to be on Lake Erie

Yes. High winds across the length of Erie has not only record waves but a seiche of around 7 feet. A lot of pictures of the lake bottom on the internet taken on the Western part of the lake. Nine boats hiding out behind Long Point. The Salty near Buffalo is showing under engine power at .2...

Reminder to check gear before towing.

I am from the generation where the kids piled in the bed of the pickup with the only safety warning "don't lean against the tailgate, you know the latches are rusted and it pops open."

Many years ago when my father was in his late 60's he dropped his rod off the boat over on Speck's home lake. The water was clear enough he could see it laying on the bottom in what he figured was about 12' of water. Now my Father was a good swimmer back in his college days but now many years...

I would venture a guess that anyone on this list over 65 has at least one offset wrench that has been bent or cut and welded to be used as a distributor wrench. If you haven't seen it in a while it is probably sitting on a shelf behind that dusty dwell meter that you may never use again but...
