Hi,
I found that my upper bearing housing seal was leaking oil out AND water in. This is on the driveshaft, just below the water pump.
The parts diagram shows parts 385556 - bearing housing - and seal 321453 - oil retainer. There are 2 seals installed face-to-face, as normal.

I had horrible starting problems with my motor until this summer. I had removed the carbs and sprayed them out with aerosol carb cleaner in the past, to no avail. This time, I went the whole dunk-in-a-bucket-of-carb-cleaner and rebuild route.
