Hey everyone gotta choice between a 78 merc 85hp or a 86 johnson 90hp. Both I’m told in good shape, the 90 was rebuilt before current owner who has paper work. Both around the same price. Any thoughts on choice? Thanks
I like your thinking, not afraid to get my hands dirty. I don’t know, Chryslers to me seem so simple. Heck I’ve seen automotive ignition conversions on those units to eliminate the power pack. Up here no salt water so no issue there. All these motors are relatively cheap to buy as well...
Sorry forgot to add that the motor is moved up to where it should be. It gets on plane reasonably well. Thanks for the input so far. I have tilt and trim as well.
Hello, I’ve got a 70 Johnson on a Starcraft st150 with OEM 131/4x17 alum prop. It spins 5300. It does 35 with 2 adults. I was looking for a bit better top end but reading this forum rpm is too low. Should I go with ss lower pitch? Thanks everyone. I’m new to props.
Im running a 1985 70 Johnson on a StarCraft st150 trihull with the OEM 131\4 x 17. Good hole shot and 35m/hr turning at 5300rpm. Would be nice to go a bit faster? Any better props out there that would perform better? Thanks
Just wondering what a proper spark should look like. I have a Johnson 70 HP and when testing it the spark jumps the gap on my tester but very thin and not a big snap but it does jump the gap. Reason I ask is I'm having trouble starting just after its shut off for a few minutes. Sometimes...
