Wow...so simple...after reading the replies carefully, a light came on. I had no idea the shift shaft is exposed between the tiller arm and upper unit! So I went ahead and lifted the lower unit until it stopped then clamped...
Hi...I recently removed the lower leg of my 88 johnson 140 to replace the water pump impeller. That was the easy part...30 mins of work and the impeller is changed and ready to install the lower unit... that's where trouble hit. I get the water tube lined up, and slide it up only to be stopped...
