I've been engaged in a discussion lately about running an outboard wide open throttle (to reduce carbon) or 3/4 to save gas and make the motor last longer.
The motor we're talking about is a carbed F50.
I uesd to never run it full blast because I wanted it to last a LONG time and going...

I have a 2002 F50 that needs carb repairs quoted at 1200.00.
My problem with this is I was also told the compression on all cylinders is 50 lbs.
So if this is true, should I replace the Yamaha with another 50 hp motor (roughly 6k) or repair the carbs and assume the low compression is nothing...
