Ok, thanks. I'll give that a shot. Looking really tough to find parts for this. For instance, that spring is very difficult to find. I might need to just take it to a hardware shop to find a similar replacement if that is in fact the issue.

My trim gauge is pegged at full up. Sometimes on the water, it will move as I trim up/down.
I'm pretty sure the wiring is good. I know there's a steel ball that contacts one of the trim cylinders. I have taken that out and inspected it and it seemed clean.

Interesting - thanks @racerone. So, my green/blue/black wiring from the tilt motor connects to my control box somehow.. I guess I'll have to do what you said and trace the wiring from motor to control box. Somewhere in there my ground is open I think.
I'm trying to troubleshoot wiring for my trim/tilt on a 1988 50hp Evinrude.
I get 12v on both green and blue wires coming into tilt motor (3 wire motor), but no ground (I have to ground to transom to get the 12v reading on each wire).
