    40HP Mariner Identification

    I just bought an older boat with a 40 HP Mariner. I went thru all the threads (took about 4 hours with the attachments) and still could not figure out the year. I think it is a Yamaha in disguise. The number is 40E 6E9 L 405173. Can someone please help? Thanx in advance. Augy
