The clutches on my faithful 67 40 hp rude are starting to slip under load. Is it the clutch spring that wears or the shaft that it grabs, I have read that you can switch the reverse clutch for the forward with like new results. Help!
When I bought my 68 13' sport in '72 and ever since it has had a spring unit on both sides of the steering cable. I know that the original only had a single. It has always worked well. I am finally putting her back together after an overall refurb and am wondering should I reinstall the second...
I had always assumed that the original '67 Rude 40 that came with my boat was a short stem but now I am not so sure. The original factory repair manual identifies the 40773 as "5" longer than standard. The cavitation plate runs about 2 1/2" below the lowest point of the center V on my 68 13'...

Well, I got the lower end back on and the head on. Approaching completion. My thermostat fits into a plastic sleeve which has a rubber flat washer under it and some sort of check valve. The washer was installed pinched from factory and don't think I will find one. Anything wrong with replacing...
Refurbishing both my '67 Erude and '68 Whaler. Need head gasket, thermostat kit, water pump kit and possibly lower unit seal kit. Any advice about obtaining parts at a reasonable price?
