I have a 1997 Suzuki 140 EFI in great shape. I'd like to put it on a boat I bought that uses a short shaft motor. Is there a way to change the shaft length that makes economic sense or am I better off selling the Suzuki and finding a 20" motor?<br />Is there some kind of bracket I can install that will raise the motor 5" without damaging the transom?

Do a Google search for "jack plates". It's a device designed to raise outboards. They're available in many sizes, styles and price ranges.

I have made or had made many transom extenders. just two stainless or aluminium plates with a 2" wide plate welded across the top. check that the steering cable will allow it. it may or may not without replacement or hull mods.
