What is the proper size prop to run with a 1999 40hp merc 4 stroke on an 18 ft crest pontoon rated for a 1700 lb load, but normally carries bout half that?? Currently has a 13 x 26 ?

Re: prop selection

The correct size prop is the one that allows the engine to achieve the recommended RPMs at Wide Open Throttle. In the engine handbook it will state Max RPM at WOT. If, at WOT, the RPMs are less than spec, then put a smaller pitch prop on. If they are too high, then a larger prop.

Chris.............

Re: prop selection

Thx for the assist, but was hoping someone could let me know if the setup I noted "sounds" right, without trying several props , not sure I can get them to try and motor not running right, yet. Was really wondering if prop might be contributing to my stall problem?? I'm a real novice here but would like to try a self fix.
