I need a starter for a 1977 Model 200 Mercury 20 hp Serial number 4580916. I was wondering what years and models I can interchange. I thought it might help my ebay search. (Edit: offering to buy is not allowed. Try a Want ad.)

Thanks,

Robert

Re: Starter Problems

Anyone out there with any suggestions? The starter was removed before I purchased the motor so rebuilding it is out of the question and I have no part numbers to go on.

Re: Starter Problems

Does the area where the starter go have two threaded holes and a spade lug connection coming off the solenoid? Here is a link to an older merc 20. There are two stye starters for the merc 20. This is the cheaper of the two and goes for around 160 bucks. The solenoid should be on the port side of the motor with a yellow wire going to one lug and a couple of big red wires coming out of another lug.
electric starter

Re: Starter Problems

Try your serial number on Merc parts express for Merc number, then try Iboats. They should be able to convert number to aftermarket.
