I have recently brought my 1989 Sea Ray 160 out of storage. It has been in storage for the past 3 years. So far everything, including the engine which fired up on the first try, is working. My question is - is there any visual means of checking to make sure the oil pump is actually working? A tube I can watch perhaps? this is the only thing I am unsure about right now. Oh, the engine is as stated in the topic - a 1989 Mercury 100 hp engine, inline 4, built for sea ray.

Thanks!
Dan

If there's any doubt, feed the motor 50:1 premix until you can verify from oil level dropping in the tank, that you have oil flow.

Forget this if you have an I/O.

Dan, the oil injection is very reliable....the only test worth a hoot is an oil pump output test, which is outlined in the MERC service manual...certain amount of oil pumped out in a certain time..if there is a small air bubble in the output line you can watch it jump every time a slug of oil is pushed out of the pump....
