In a few hours, I'm going to purchase a Merc.150XR6. Before I place the order, I have a question.

1. Will there be a noticeable difference between my Merc. 125 and the XR6? On my old rig I went from a 25hp to 40hp and it made all the difference in the world, speed, power and jumped right on plane. I hope a 25hp increase will be even better?

Thanks!

Jody11148,
You didn't give us what kind of hull your putting it on. A 150 on a 300lb hydroplane hull using a raker prop with over the hub exhaust will make a huge difference over a 125 :) Putting it on a 3000lb bass boat with a 1000lbs of coolers, beer, bait and buddies, will only make a small difference. You wont see the performance leap like you did going from a 15 to a 40. Thats almost a 38% increase in power. The 125 to 150 is only about 16%.
Can you feel the difference...yes, but it wont be as noticeable.

I noticed you're from Colorado. If you are going to use it primarily at higher altitudes, go with the 150. With the lower levels of oxygen, you'll appreciate the additional power.

Nav

I will be putting the 150XR-6 on a 2003, Lund Mr. Pike 18'. The total weight of boat, motor, and driver is 1810 pounds. The rig will actually be used in Iowa, 817 feet above sea level. The hull is Lunds IFS semi-V aluminum.
