1975 70 hp sat idle for a month after running all summer.Installed a rebuilt starter two years ago. Turn key and only get a click. Replaced battery. Starter gear which engages flywheel does come up and I don't think even spins.Noticed some green corrosion in the wires near the battery terminal connectors.

Bchappy - You might dig a bit deeper into that green corrosion. I have seen where the terminal ends were clean and tight, the cable clean and the wires inside of the cable little more than green mush. Or just replace it.

Bchappy,

Solittle's prob'ly right on the money, I got a 75 50hp same green corrosion, peeled back the insulation & the cables were trash.

Another culprit you can check is your starer solenoid.

Good Luck,
Mike
