Check for spark when it bogs. Sounds like you are dropping a cylinder due to a bad coil. If you lose spark to one cylinder swap the coils and see if the problem follows before you go throwing cash at it.

I had the same problem with a 77 70 hp and turned out that the coils would get hot and not put out the correct power and after i replaced them it ran perfect.

Re: 60hp johnson dies over midle speed

thanks every one for your messages. After 2 weeks of works i still have the same problem.first a changed the rotor it was for a magneto system with a wider metal on the end.I removed the flywheel to check the woodruff key broken or damaged, the key was in good condition. the mark on flywheel was not time with the no 1 cylindertop dead center (TDC) the no 1 cylender j
ust start to moved down with the timing mark on the flywheel .We backup the flyweheel 1-1/2inches
to have the piston dead center changes the coil and all the hoses.Synchronizing the distributor and the the carburetor.changes the gas tank and the primer skueeze bulb. The float arm in the carburator was bent up to be parallel with the cover surface. it same to have a blue smoke when ajusting the low speed needle.with all these changes we din't see any improvement on the midle n high speed.any more sugestions thanks.
