I just bought a new (to me) 89' Seaswirl with the above mentioned motor. The dealer suggested that I take out the automatic oil/fuel mixer (what's it called?) and mix the oil and fuel myself.

He says that keeps me from getting stranded with a seized motor if the mixer fails.

Any comments or thoughts on that idea before I pursue it? How difficult is it to mix the fuel and oil in a 25 gallon tank?

Thanks!

Re: Evinrude 120 HP OB and Oil Mixing

I mix mine all the time in my 25 Gallon tank and it's easy. The VRO,(Oil Injection system) is reliable as long as you take care of it. But for me. I prefer to pre-mix, as I have done since I've been boating and that's been a while... 1 pint of oil per 6 gallons of gas is fairly simple to remember... If nessesary, you may want to print this chart out for the 50:1 ratio..

web page

Also, a good thing to do is get a sticker and put it at the fuel filler that says "Pre-mix only", in case someone else uses your boat or you forget..
