what kind of gear oil?

I have a 1964 Johnson sea horse.what kind of gear oil do I use and how much do I put in

Is your V-4 electric shift or Mechanical?<br /><br />If mechanical, High-Viscosity SAE 90W GL-5 rated marine gearcase oil, despite any recomendation of the lighter "OMC Type C" in your unit. <br /><br />If Electric, it must be "OMC (or Bombardier) Premium Blend gearcase lube" oil, and no others. This is what used to be called "Type C".<br /><br />I hope this helps!<br /><br />PS - apparently the big difference between 'outboard' gearcase oil and plain SAE 90 GL5 is that there are emulsefiers in the outboard stuff to keep any water that gets in there mixed with the oil. Plus rust inhibitors of course.

i cant tell you how much, seeing as to we dont know what size motor or even if its electric shift or not... more info neeeded pleese<br /><br />m ike
