starting problems

1981 evinrude, model # E25rcim, serial #E0003998<br />ourboard cranks well but may or may not start. When it does start, it runs well until I shut it off. Restart may or may not occur for a while. Each time where there is a no start, there is no spark at spark plug. What are my problems?

could be in you ignition switch or check your main kill switch if the toggle switch is bad it will cause that

In addition to the above (kill switch etc) do a close inspection of wiring around the powerpack. Check all wires close for bad/dirty connection and especially for deterioration such as fraying or rotting insulation. Sounds to me like a poor connection that's sporadically making contact.
