1999 evinrude 225 ficht engine, ecu upgrade?

To seahorse and brian03,<br />Thank you for the info on this engine. You should also know that the lift pump and main fuel pump should be upgraded also. An evinrude tech. said my ecu was okay. Should I be concerned that it could go at anytime and just pay the expense and get it upgraded? How can I tell if it has been upgraded? Are their any signs that an ecu is about to go? I would also like to hear back from anyone who has this engine, to let me know what they think about it. I will also pass along any info I find out about it. Thanks for all your help.

direwolf....Is that a problem with the early Ficht motors? I have a 2000 150hp and have had no problems with but have heard about some of the early problems with them. I have never heard about ecu problems though, what is the deal with the ecu?

1999 seen to be the most problematic on ecu. I have never had any signs befor failure. On some of these engines we baby sit them every week. All the ecu we have sent out for up dates or repair have never failed afterwards. It seems that they know exactly what is failing with them. Its funny too they all worked for OMC. Lets see build some thing with a flaw and then start a company to fix the flaw.(No) We have had customers that want spare ecu there hard to come by.

There were a number of up-grades on these engines. The mechanic in the field simply reprogramed the ECU with computor disc. sent with the up-grade kit. I retired from full time work in late 2000, so I'm not familiar with later develoments on these Ficht engines.
