I have a 79 johnson 70 hp. Motor will start fine and idle fine. The motor will go forward fine slow, but when I open up the throttle it dies most of the time, but will run great if it makes it to full throttle. Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?

b,alan,

You can just about bet it's gummed up carburetors.

They will need to be disassembled and cleaned.

Not a hard job, with a manual.

Thanks djohns19, I was also told this could be linkage problem, do you know about this? I was also quoted 350.00 by a boat shop to repair or clean carbs. Sounds too high.

The parts can be had for about $70.00 to $100.00. (high end) Add a manual for $30.00 and you're way ahead of the game.

I doubt it's a synch. problem.
