I have a 1995 20hp evinrude, and lately I have noticed gear case lube around the propellar, I pulled the propellar off, and it appeared to be leaking around the propellar shaft, theres a rubber seal around the shaft and I was wondering if that seal justs pops off, and what is the correct name for it when I go to buy a new one, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: leaking gear case

Yes that seal does take a special tool to remove it (so it says in the manual) I just did my 15 yesterday and you have 2 seals there, back to back. I used an offset standard screwdriver to pry them out. Clean up the surface, then coat the outside with a gasket sealer. Drive them in using a 13/16 deepwell socket. After both are installed spread some marine grease right where the 2 meet, to aid in sealing that up. Then, that's it. Although,,,,,,,,your exhaust is behind the prop, and I was told that it's expected to get some oil out from the exhaust. How much?????????I don't know. You can get the seal kits about anywhere. Hope this helps.
