I'm going to rebuild the carbs on my engine, and I've got the service manual, but I'm looking for some tips before I tear them apart. The engine is hard starting, and fouls the plugs, but runs great under power.Thanks for the help.
There're one of the easier carb sets to get at & rebuild, particularly if you've got the manual. If you do one at a time, the other can act as a reference for you. Pay attention to the linkage and synchronization adjustments when you put them back together - that'll make the difference in getting smooth idle & off-idle performance. Take a look at how the the linkages are adjusted and figure out how they work before disassembly. It's possible they're set up wrong now, but the manual & your understanding should help set them straight.
HBF4: Look for a post from SCO (could be a few pages ago) about a 1973 135 Johnnyrude. There was lots of good info about the carbs and the choke and such. My '76 115 acts just like yours. PDS Edit:I see SCO just posted about a 71 135, not the post I'm talking about. Page 8,"Condensed threads 73 johnson 135" I had to look it up to see if my memory was losing it faster than normal.
