My motor under load 3/4 or more rpm slips out of forword gear and the bottom end has just been rebuilt. Also what other parts need to be replaced other then the carb to increase the HP to 15HP ?

Check the gear shifter adjustment. I think that in those early years of the 9.9, the carb was the only difference. I could be wrong though, but I think that was it.

Hi mtn...

1974 was the first year for 9.9's. Could you post your serial number so we can get you a correct year?

When you reassembled the lower unit to the midsection, are you sure the shift rod link screw hole was aligned to the slot in the end of the upper shift rod? Did you also check the lower shift rod height? With the shift rod link install to the lower shift rod and the lower unit in neutral, the top of the shift rod link should be 7/16 inch from the top of the gear case. A missalignment here can cause your problem. Also, the first year for the 9.9/15, the only difference was the carb as nathan posted. You will have to look around for one as they are no longer available from a dealer. Let us know about the model number. Thanks.

I think that is a 1980 model motor.

Thanks for the info . . . is the same adjustment and carb upgrade still good for that year? I'm very technical minded and would like to adjust this myself. . . have tools will fix!

I think that it will take more than just a carb on that year model. I beleive that there is something about the exhaust that has to be changed too.
