Evinrude 115 charging??

Have a mid 80's model Evinrude 115. How can I check to see if it is charging the battery? Last week the battery went dead and I had to move the trolling motor over and hook it up to get it started. Battery is only 6 months old. I have a volt/ohm meter and an amp meter to use to check it with.<br /><br />thanks<br />Terry G.

check the voltage across the battery. Start engine and monitor voltage while cruising WOT. The voltage should steadily climb. Pending on how low the battery is, you should see atleast 13.5plus in just a few minutes....<br />

I have notice with all my outboards that if the tach is working....the batterys are charging. <br /><br /> highandry
