voltage reads 12 volts at idle, 16 volts at full throttle. also engine cuts out after 5 minutes but can be restarted.

When does it cut out? After running WOT or at idle? <br />The voltage I wouldn't worry about. I have seen many voltage meters read that high voltage at WOT. My engine produces the same.

with increased rpm, voltage increses then cuts out when it reaches almost 16 volts, even in mid range

60 degree or 90 degree engine? 20inch shaft or 25 inch shaft?

is there a safety cut off in the elctrical that would kill the motor if the voltage is to high?<br />would there be a problem with the electrical box, ie. voltage regulator
