This motor has been sitting for quite some time. It's not frozen so I think I can get it started. I need tips on what to do before I try to get it going.

Hi Skecher,
First, check for spark and compression. You'll want compression in each hole to be on the far side of 130psi and within 5% of each other.
If those check out, move on to the fuel system - carbs will probably need rebuilding - not as bad as it sounds. An aftermarket manual will probably work for this (Clymer, Seloc, etc.)
Move on down to the water pump impeller - install a new one regardless of how "good" the old one looks.
Give her a tank with fresh gas mixed at 50:1 with good TCW-3 oil, plus a good battery and a set of ear-muffs hooked up to the garden hose, then give her a whirl!
- Scott

Re: 77 75hp evinrude

I have just acuired a 1977 75 hp from a friend who no longer used it. It has been sitting a while.

Does your 77 have 3 carbs?? It looks pretty complicated. I would be intersted on how your carb rebuild went??
