Hello. I am in the market for a fishfinder. Came down to these two units. I don't know much about fishfinders. What are single/dual frequencies mean? I am here in Las Vegas and probably will do a lot of fishing/boating in Lead Mead or the Colorado river. Are these two units goodfor the water I am going to use or overkill? Thanks.

Re: Eagle Sea Finder 320DF/480DF

Riverwolf
Dual transducers are designed for different depths . The DF operates in both 200 kHz and 50 kHz . The 200 kHz freq. has a 12 deg. cone and the 50kHz has a 35 deg. cone
The 200 kHz is best for use in shallow water to about 300 feet or less this freq. is best for about 80 percent of fresh and salt water sport fishing applications. When you go into very deep salt water 300 to 500 feet or deeper the 50 kHz freq is the best choice. The 200kHz will give you better detail and definition , but less depth penetration. The 50kHz will give you greater depth penetration but a little less detailand less definition(all sonar units typically read deeper in fresh water than in salt.

The above is directly from the 320/32 DF manual page 57.

I have a 320 fishmark and am very pleased with it it worked great great right out of the box and is loaded with many features . I took one day to go to the lake to get fimiular with the unit and was pleased with its ease of operation so did some fishing while I was there.

Let me know if I can help futher.

Tom Harvey

Hi Phototom1,
I don't know much about fishfinder. My boat doesn't have a depth gauge. I need a fishfinder that shows the the depth of the water. Does this 320/320/DF model show any?

riverwolf
The 320 as with most all fishfinder/depthfinders show depth, most of them you can set feet or meters your choice. They will show the depth usually on one side or the other at the top of the screen the 320 also has a surface temp. read out.

riverwolf
Go to the Eagle web site www.eaglegps.com/ there you can view or download the manual free for the eagle 320 and many other models.I down loaded for my 320 and printed the pages I needed the most put them in a binder and they are in the boat with me in case I run across something I'm not real fimular with. Like I said it is a user friendly unit. I don't know how deep Lake Mead is but I would think the Fishmark 320 would be great for this lake.

Tom H

phototom1
We are going through deep drought here in the SW. The water level at Lake Mead went down alot the past year, a couple of Marinas has to be relocated. At this time, the elevation of the lake is 1,142' above sea level which last year the same time was 1,229'. You can imagine how bad it is. I checked the Eagle website, I can actually download the model and play with it.

phototom1, does your 320 comes with speed/distance or that is an extra option?
