I am thinking about getting rid of or selling my min kota 28 lb and getting either a MG 52 for 329 or the MK 55lb for 369$, Just wondering if i step up to the bigger lbs will that suck more juice out of my deep cycle and which would be better to buy for the money for a 16ft bass boat. Thanks!

I always liked Minn Kota.

Yes, it's gonna draw more juice. If you get the MK with the "maximizer" it will surprise you how long thwe battery lasts.

Yep gonna suck a little more juice. But as Mr. DJ said the maximizer circutry in MK works wonders. I use a autopilot 55 on 14' tracker sportsman with casting deck, outboard, my fat butt and a friend weighing in around 700 lbs total. I can fish all day on one battery and still have power left over for manuevering when I get back to the ramp. Most of my fishing is done in rivers so I'm fighting current all day too. :)

For your boat I would get a MK 74# Maxxum. I have a 65# on a 15' Gregor aluminum boat thats converted into an aluminum bassboat. The # thrust is just about right. With 74#'s of thrust you will have power to stay in the wind, run up currents, mulch weeds and chase fish boils.
Anything above 55# thrust is 24 volts. Any trolling motor that has variable speed (1-10 not a 5 speed) has the maximizer built in.
With the maximizer and 24 volts you will have enough juice to last for a couple days.
A 74# thrust MK costs around $600. I bought mine used for $300. You can also search the net for reconditioned trolling motors and might be able to find one for around $400.
The trolling motor is the most important piece of equipment on the boat so get the biggest and best that you can affor or else you will be upgrading later.
