How do you remove the cable from the inside of the boat to pull it out with the lower stern drive?

First, disconnect from the shift adapter up on the engine. Next, with the drive raised, remove the retainer clip on the drive side of the Intermediate housing. Spray a penetrating oil around the cable on both sides of the housing.

A second set of hands is helpful here, one pulling and one pushing... it's all a matter of carefully wrestling the cable through the housing. It can be a pain if the drive has not been removed in a while.

disconnect your battery first. You don't want to know the damage it would cost or time it would take to repair if one of the shift cables came in contact with the B+ post of one of the solenoids!!!

just have the new cable right there as you disassemble and reverse the order to install the new cable. Notice the 2 little pucks on the end of the cable are slightly different sizes and may be painted red and black to distinguish.
