the choke solenoid has power and ground but will not pull the choke closed. light finger pressure on butterflies will close them. linkage seems good and not binding.

local dealer says I would have better luck finding a Leprechaun riding a Unicorn through a field of 4 leaf clovers on the 3rd Sunday of December.

aside from fabbing some loooooong pull cable to the front seat what options do I have?

(I look like an idiot starting it at the ramp with the cover off while wife cranks the key and hold choke closed)

Leprechauns and unicorns, huh? Well they must be pretty common, because all your dealer has to do is order the dumb thing. The choke solenoid is/was part number 379558, now superceded by 383598. Kind of expensive at about $155.

Now, having said that, I am assuming you are telling us that the choke solenoid has been determined to be the problem (??). Is it trying to pull the choke shut at all? It is adjustable, slides back and forth in the clamp. It has the spring linking the solenoid plunger to the choke lever, right? Finally, I gotta ask, you do have the manual knob in the automatic position, right?

yes, the manual lever is in "automatic"

the solenoid is open, no continuity through the windings.

they told me it was discontinued.

$155? ouch. any cheaper ideas? would a trunk release solenoid from a mid 90's GM work?
