Motor Trims when shift from Nuetral to frwd

I have a 1986 merc 115 outboard. When I shift the control handle from neutral to forward or forward to neutral the engines starts to trim up and wont stop. Anyhelp appreciated....Thx

Sounds like something is shorting out inside the controls. You will have to take them apart and see whats going on.

Will have a look this weekend. I was also wondering if it could be a relay or maybe a short on the engine somewhere but the controls sound more likely. I've had the boat for a couple of years and never had this problem......Thanks.

bhile is right but just start with removing the control handle first most likely it's just the t-n-t wire harness where it's wraps around the handle drum.
