Chicago. Most expensive gas. Most expensive sales tax. And probably most expensive ramp. $25/day. IF they have room for your trailer.

If you love higher taxes, higer gas prices and highly incompetent officials - Boat on over to New York.... :D

Re: Ramp fees! and the south

Many public ramps in all the towns around here, no fees on any of them. Never had to wait behind more than one boat, never any trouble parking.

Another advantage of the south. Here in Charleston, South Carolina the county has a number of free ramps into the salt water, good docks, paved parking. Some get a little busy at times (weekends), but they are nice.

Re: Ramp fees!

You guys shouldn't be posting these prices here, now our ramp management is going to see this and jack our prices up. Thanks. LOL.

We have 1 pay which is really nice (6 ramps) $4.00 a launch and 2 free spots to launch for free which are usually extremely packed and lord help you if you are there when the F.N.G. is trying (bring your patients).

El Capitan Reservoir in San Diego......Costs me and my family $38 bucks every time we launch....$10 per adult, $6 per child and $6 launch fee.....

Oh....and don't you dare jump out of the boat for a little swim.....you will get fined for that.....The only way you can jump out of the boat is if you are Wakeboarding, Skiing, or Tubing....Besides that, you are screwed.

Nice little lake though......limited to 100 boats a day....keeps it from being overcrowded.

Another one from SE Wisconsin. I usually go up to Lake Winnebago and launch in Fond du Lac. It's a city ramp and they charge $7 per day or $21 for the season.

If I go out on Lake Michigan, I prefer to launch in Port Washington and they charge $9 per day or $90 for the season.

Ain't that the truth. All the local reservoirs charge a launch fee, a water contact fee, a day use fee, a per-person fishing fee, yada-yada-yada...

It costs me $40-$60 to take the boat and the kids down to the crappy little reservoir just down the street. In fifteen years the boat has seen the local reservoirs maybe three times.

The Bays on the other hand are entirely free to launch. So that's where my boat goes 99% of the time.

Public ramp at St. Marks is $5 parking(or $75 ticket for failure to pay), 3 lanes decent dock and grass to the water if you want to beach. Local Lakes are free. Marinas are $10 for trailer and ~$20 for lift. Keaton Beach public ramp is free, concrete 2 lanes and nice docks.

Ours are mostly free and "maintained" (though not well) by the power companies that dammed up the river in the first place. The only pay ramp I've used was in Ocean City, MD. $10 which is a rip. However if you keep your receipt you don't have to pay to retrieve even if it's like a week later.

Re: Ramp fees!

Well I was thinking of the fees this way.

5 Month season here, average 10 fees each day, roughly 150 days per season = 1500 fees Times $7.00 = $10500.00.

Then when you include property tax revenue. Does it really cost that much to maintain a Municipal ramp?

Our ramps do not offer a resident discount. Seasonal pass only good for one lake. Multiple lakes = multiple fees.

Waukesha County has a season pass for $75 which covers Pewaukee, Nagawicka, and Nemahbin.
Based on how nice the launches are, the fee doesn't bother me.

If I launch in Lake Michigan from McKinley Marina, it is $12.

I should also mention. Newport beach in SoCal has one launch that charge like $20+ per launch and for each day while your boat is out in the ocean. It's like they are charge the customer to use the ocean that they do not own.

How busy/rough is Lake Winnebago on a weekend?

Re: Ramp fees!

The lake I go to charges $15/day for launch and parking. A season pass is $225. I pay it happily because it's a good ramp and they hire kids to help launch and trailer.

There's three other launches around the lake I'm aware of. One is private on church land and is used for fishing (it's basically dirt & gravel). One is public (I think) and it's nice gravel, but I don't go there because my truck isn't 4 wheel drive and I don't want to risk getting stuck. The third is private (I think) but I don't think the community minds people using it as long as they don't make asses of themselves (also lots of parking so maybe it's actually public). But to get to that one I have to drive 30 minutes all the way around the lake. Not worth it.

The ramp I go to (and pay for) is literally 10 minutes from my acreage. It's perfect!

Re: Ramp fees!

Here in Oregon is a new deal on fees. You can opt to buy a one year pass for around $30. and park, launch, and use the facilities except for overnight almost anyplace the state owns the ramp and park. If the county owns it, there may be a flat $3. per day, use fee -- unless you are over 63, military, or a couple other things, then it's free as a day use area. Camping site extra of course, but many of us stay on board, soo no fee at all for that.

Used to be, you bought a day pass for an area, and each time you moved parks another pass was needed each day. State, Fed., and County all different, yuck.

Pretty boiled down, but that is the main gist of it. I buy a pass, and I'm good to go for most places -- but I check to see which ones are covered and keep that list. Other places, I just put bucks in some Govt. pass envelopes, and keep them in the car for the pay stations.

Bes Wishes, Cal

Here in New Hampshire $25.00 to launch and park. $850.00 for the season.

Over in Maine 20 in + 20 out. + you must purchase a milfoil sticker ($25.00) if you have an out of state registration.

I tend to stay away from Maine over the past few seasons

Re: Ramp fees!

I ramp I use the most was $25 for a years permit. Best deal I ever found. Last year I went to buy the permit at the Harbor Masters office and was told the price is now $125. The HM said its free to town residents. I'm not a town resident. He asked me where I am staying, I told him next town over, its my folks place, etc... He still would not sell me a permit. Said I should go double check because there might be a reciprocal agreement between towns, yada yada yada. Well it came down to this: When a big man wearing a big gun doesn't want to sell you a launch permit, its time to leave. So I did. Have been launching for the last two years without the permit, even though there is a big new sign at the launch with the prices clearly marked. I noticed that no one has a permit sticker on their trailer. They used to enforce the permits, but for the last two years no one from the HM office has come and asked for the permit (the ramp can be seen from the HM office).

My guess is the Harbor Master did not think that the increase in ramp fees was justified (even though a new ramp was just completed). So now I launch for free.

Exactly! Newport is high rent district!!!!
That part I dont miss!

I can launch on the river for 5 bucks at this cozy little ramp, maybe 15 mins from my driveway.
